In order to make his vision for the kiosks a reality, Shipon approached Phoenix Kiosk for a highly customized solution. Phoenix Kiosk, which provides an in-house staff of engineers, analysts, and developers, works closely with BobbleVision on each project to provide a unique kiosk that fits the specific needs of an attraction or venue. The kiosks created for CN Tower are wall-mounted and specially designed to accommodate BobbleVision's media creation system.

The video postcard kiosks are simple to use. Visitors choose a postcard design, record a 30-second greeting, and transactions are finalized with a credit-card swipe. BobbleVision video postcards are shared over and over with friends and family via email links and Facebook posts.

"There's an extra benefit to the venue since each postcard effectively becomes a customer testimonial complete with banner links back to the venue's e-commerce site." Shipon added, "It's like an ad campaign where customers actually pay to create and send the ad."

BobbleVision charges $2.50 per postcard and revenues are shared with the venue.

“It’s enjoyable to contribute to a successful, exciting project with BobbleVision and their client CN Tower,” said Alan Work, General Manager of Phoenix Kiosk. “BobbleVision has a very unique and captivating concept, and we’re excited about the opportunity to tailor kiosks for them in the future.”

Shipon stated that Phoenix Kiosk has consistently delivered quality kiosks on time and on budget.

“I can rely on them,” he said, “and that is why I have stuck with Phoenix Kiosk.”

________________________________________________________________________

About Phoenix Kiosk, Inc.
Based in Tempe, Arizona, Phoenix Kiosk designs, manufactures and distributes enduring, approachable self-service technologies for use in a wide variety of applications. The companies, both based in Tempe, Ariz., collaborated on the final assembly and delivery of a custom laser pet tag engraving kiosk for each of PetSmart's 1,200 retail locations.

Phoenix Kiosk began work with TagWork’s design and production engineers in early 2009 and assembly operations were established that resulted in the production of the first 600 kiosks. It was critical to PetSmart that the kiosks be installed before the December holiday season, and the partnership was able to meet that goal. As a result of the successful program roll out, TagWorks was designated a “Top 30 Supplier” by PetSmart.

Kiosk assembly operations resumed in January, 2010 to complete production for the remaining 600 locations.

"We are very pleased with our decision to award Phoenix Kiosk the production contract for the PetSmart program,” said George Hagen, CEO of TagWorks. “They have proven to be an excellent partner that has fully embraced the philosophy that if they help us make PetSmart successful, we all succeed! We will not hesitate to partner again with Phoenix Kiosk as we continue our mission to develop custom kiosk programs for our other big-box retailer clients."

Because Phoenix Kiosk and TagWorks are located within the same commercial complex, the companies are extremely efficient. This is vitally important to ensure continuity with the TagWorks technical team, resulting in a perfect on-time delivery record for PetSmart.

“Phoenix Kiosk is very grateful to have been chosen by TagWorks to lend our expertise to an important project with a well-respected client such as PetSmart,” said Alan Work, General Manager of Phoenix Kiosk. “We are excited to be selected as a TagWorks strategic partner and look forward to our continued collaboration.”

Phoenix Kiosk is continuing its commitment to going green during the TagWorks project by reusing packaging that contains lasers for the kiosks. Once the lasers are received by Phoenix Kiosk, the empty packaging is returned for reuse on subsequent shipments. This reduces the amount of landfill waste that Phoenix Kiosk’s operations would create by nearly 450 cubic feet per week.

About Phoenix Kiosk, Inc.
Based in Tempe, Arizona, Phoenix Kiosk (www.phoenixkiosk.com) designs, manufactures and distributes enduring, approachable self-service technologies for use in a wide variety of applications. According to RIS News publisher Dave Weinand in a recent joint webinar with Zebra, IBM and St. Clair Interactive, self-service is an initiative gaining noticeable momentum in retail. Sounds tempting, right? But before you rush into implementation, keep in mind that proper planning is key. With the Fujitsu Med-Serv 50 kiosk, applications can be developed to ease and speed up the process for patient check-in. In addition, other applications for easily filling out satisfaction surveys, paying outstanding balances or co-pay fees can be supported. In order to eliminate fraud, another optional feature, the Fujitsu PalmSecure(TM) palm vein biometric reader, can be deployed to authenticate the patient. Self-service kiosks allow healthcare providers to increase patient satisfaction while reducing administrative staff in favor of additional medical staff.

Airport kiosks do more things, but they do not yet check luggage

There is trend toward installing more self-serving kiosk at U.S. airports – an have these kiosk do more; thousands of self-serve kiosks in the last few years so passengers can print boarding passes, confirm flights and change seats on the touch-screen computers; in the future, kiosks may let passengers buy a meal on the plane or volunteer to give up a seat if a flight is overbooked.

How to Build a Web-Based Kiosk

Overview:
Recently one of our existing clients approached me about the possibility of constructing a web based kiosk system. Our client had struck up a deal with a major U.S. retailer to offer access to their products within the retailer’s existing brick and mortar stores. As part of the deal our client needed to supply the retailer with kiosks which would then be placed within these retail locations. Our client currently operates on a custom ecommerce platform that we developed in 2006 and built using PHP and PostgreSQL. Our client’s goal was to create a similar interface that was capable of interacting with their current website and database system but designed for a touch screen environment.

7 Myths About Windows 7

Yes, Windows 7 didn't even hit the market until Thursday. But that hasn't stopped a fog of myths from enveloping the newest version of the much loved--and much hated--PC operating system from Microsoft.

The software giant hoped that wide exposure to Windows 7 would help smooth its entry. Microsoft let millions of consumers and professionals download test versions of the operating system. And by a wide margin, testers have found the new system to be the best yet from Microsoft. Version 7 is leaner, more useful, and prettier than past editions--a worthy effort to update the Windows world.

Still, the fictions are legion. Much of it is innocent confusion that accompanies any major software release. Some of it arises from Microsoft apologists trying to bury the botched release of Windows Vista, sniping Apple fans who want the Mac to continue gaining market share, or diehard techies who revere free Linux software.

The rise of the MACHINES

In this day and age, you can buy just about anything without interacting with a human.

It's not just the Internet that eliminates the need for face-to-face communication. Also helping to propel the growth is consumer acceptance of self-service kiosks as what he termed "a way of life."

Kiosks in grocery: Why uptime is so important

The deli ordering kiosk which normally sits just inside of the entry to the main store, was sitting by the shopping carts corral with this ugly but obvious sign. Gone are the times when a company could develop a widget with all the bells and whistles that could still be profitable, even if it took an end-user three weeks to figure out how to change any of the settings. Think of the old VHS players and how most people couldn’t even set the clocks. But now, consumers have so many options that it's more important to develop a product that they find usable and intuitive. In fact, I would argue that entire companies have failed because their products have lacked these characteristics.

Phoenix Kiosk Inc.
